A NEW CANADIAN OFFICE AND LONGSTANDING COMPANY CULTURE
Trust and Autonomy is a cultural pillar for all capSpire employees. But this set of values has even more meaning when you’re hired as the third employee in a new office.
Mehak Mahanoori, a Principal Consultant, joined capSpire about three and a half years ago when the Calgary office was just opening. She came from a large consulting company to capSpire, which at the time had a closely-knit team of only about 150 employees. Being one of three employees in the new Canadian outpost was a welcome shift for Mehak. “I could see the company growing right in front of me,” she recalls.
“I was there when there were only three of us. Being part of the culture at that point in time was a phenomenal experience.”
Since joining capSpire, some things have changed for the Canadian team: now there are about twenty employees, and the client base in the country has grown exponentially. However, because the well-established and respected company culture was built into the bedrock of the Canadian office, the employees there began with an advantage. It was clear to Mehak from day one that capSpire takes culture seriously.
AUTONOMY TO BUILD A SOLUTION
Mehak states what many other capSpirians have also boasted about: micromanagement is simply not part of working at capSpire. Because of this, Mehak is able to get better work done in more efficient ways. To illustrate her point, she describes a tool she developed for a client.
“The tool helps merge the business’s different spreadsheets and manages their day-to-day positions while interacting with the ETRM system. They can get all their position data correctly,” she explains. Her tool eliminates the need for twenty spreadsheets, reduces risk, and streamlines processes.
“We’re helping clients operate, but with maximum efficiency. This tool is close to my heart, and now we get to share it with other clients, too.”
EVERYONE IS A HELPER
Trust in her concept and autonomy to get it done helped Mehak take her product to market and subsequently improve the day-to-day lives of her clients in the ETRM space. However, if a question or uncertainty arises, Mehak knows she is surrounded by other employees who genuinely want to help her succeed.
“I know I can actually reach out to anyone for help, irrespective of what level they’re on. I can reach out to the MD’s, I have reached out to partners in some cases,” says Mehak.
“People are so accessible, but I can still run my own show. When I know I need help, people have my back.”
FREEDOM TO INNOVATE
Having autonomy, Mehak explains, also gives her freedom to innovate. She’s been in the ETRM space for eleven years, and moving her career to capSpire allows her to use her deep knowledge of the space in creative, out-of-the-box ways.
And once employees like Mehak do have success in developing a product, solving an issue for a client, or locking in new business, it’s actually recognized by teammates and management.
“Knowing my hard work is recognized makes me excited when I wake up each morning and happy to come back to work every day,” she says. For Mehak, this is commendable and a unique trait not often embedded in company culture.
